I was enjoying my chicken cutlet at the coffeeshop yesterday and suddenly I felt a few drops of cold water on my hand. I looked up and realized the coffeeshop uncle (he’s the boss I guess) held a mug of cold water in his hand which was used to splatter it onto the old uncle who dozed off. My first reaction was why the coffeeshop boss did this to the poor old uncle who was just sitting there motionlessly. “So bad”, I murmured to myself.
I then fixed my eyes to the television which was showing 心花朵朵开, again the coffeeshop boss popped into the frame of my view talking rudely to the old uncle. “An zhua, buey song ah?” The uncle didn’t say anything, he reached out for a packet of tissue and started wiping his arms and pants which was wet. My heart sank while I watched him drying himself. I couldn’t understand why the coffeeshop boss did this to him as he did not create any nuisance or trouble. He was just sitting there dozing off with a cup of Kopi-o and a packet of cigarette. At this point of time, I wanted to reach out my hand to help but I don’t know what I can do. I don’t know anything about this old uncle and the coffeeshop boss, I don’t know if this old uncle has a family taking care of him and I also don’t know if the old uncle and the coffeeshop boss are related.
Darling and I left subsequently, while walking to the car I asked him why the old uncle is mistreated by the boss, it is so evil of the boss to splash a mug of cold water onto the uncle. Darling replied that the uncle might have been loitering at the coffeeshop all day long and sat there through out the evening affecting the business. “But he was just sitting there what, maybe he doesn’t have a home to return to? Can’t the coffeeshop boss let him rest there?”. “Ai ya, 生意人的想法和我们不一样的啦”.
Is it true? Where money is concern, there is no room for kinship or sympathy?
I often see such things happen in dramas and movies, but I never thought it will also happen in real life.
