In my view, I find admin job monotonous and boring. No job satisfaction, no career advancement opportunity and no motivation to go to work every morning. I derive my motivation to wake up on the dot daily for work from my colleagues and bosses (I have got 3 bosses).
I am glad and I thank god for giving me wonderful colleagues and understanding bosses; Colleagues who are helpful, funky, jovial and generous, Bosses who are understanding, kind, liberal and willing to teach. They are part of the reason why I do not drag my feet to the office.

But why am I still grumbling here?

It is because admin job has got little feel of achievement as compared to the other desk bound jobs. I see my in-house lawyers working hard giving professional legal advice to the other 11 industries’ departments in the company, it’s so cool! I see my besties of various corporate departments (internal control, IT department and planning department) putting their heads together on how to improve the environment in the company making it a more conducive workplace and then implementing their plans; how I hope I could join them in the contribution to the company. I feel very puny as I can be easily replaced and am dispensable in my position; anyone can come in and take over what I am doing without any formal handover or memo.

Moving on to the salary part, I am absolutely contented with I am drawing now as an admin. Definitely a reasonable employee package with a cool basic salary, $120+ transport allowance monthly, $500 yearly dental benefits, 30 days MC fully claimable (below $50), 14days annual leave and 4 extra (company) holidays in December apart from the PHs. My aim is to earn a $40k salary per annum, but given my current position and qualification as a diploma holder, what kind of experience can I gain when I have been doing the same kind of admin work for a few years and how much more can I put in to be promoted to the executive level?

I don’t want to be a typical NATO (No Action Talk Only) Singaporean. Hence, I have been seeking and looking for opportunities to upgrade myself and at the same time, learn things from my bosses and lawyers to gain more knowledge and understand what Company Act and Contract Law are about. Learning is a never ending journey. I got to thank my GM and DGM for giving me the chance to go for my professional certification course next year which will cost $10k+ in total.
Although the HR has yet to approve my application for company’s sponsorship for this course totally, I believe I will get the chance to go for other types of courses which is below $5k in the year 2009. A new year that is beginning soon, and so a whole new attitude to go for what I want in my occupation and to start planning now!

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
